The press has been informed that deaths related to drink driving are increasing due to people driving while still under the influence following a night of drinking.
1380 were killed or seriously injured according to Department of Transport figures for 2015. This is an increase of 5% from the previous year, and the figures also show that overall casualties rose by 3%, with 8480 injured.
During 2015, police carried out 520,210 breathalyser tests with over 60,000 failing or refusing to take part.
“There’s a wide misunderstanding about how long alcohol can stay in the system the morning after. Sleeping does not hit a ‘reset’ button – you process alcohol at the same rate whether you’re awake or asleep.” says Hunter Abbott, Managing Director of AlcoSense.
“So it’s easier than you think to unintentionally drink drive the next morning, or to drive unaware that there is still enough alcohol in your system to dramatically increase your chances of being in a fatal road accident.”
