It has been reported that a driver in Scotland, who caused a fatal crash some 12 years ago, has now been caught drink driving on the same stretch of road.
The defendant, Alexander McDonald-Haigh was caught driving twice over the legal drink driving limit on the A82 Loch Ness-side road. It was also alleged that he was also driving without a driving licence.
McDonald-Haigh was sentenced to 3 years in prison in 2004 for killing his best friend in a tragic drink driving accident in 2003.
For these new offences he appeared at Inverness Sheriff’s Court for sentencing on 6 May 2016.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson told Macdonald-Haig she was “narrowly persuaded” not to send him to jail.
After having pleaded guilty to the driving offences, the sentence handed down was one of a disqualification from driving for 5 years, a £2,000 fine and 300 hours of unpaid work.
