A woman who was found trapped in her overturned car was over double the legal drink-drive limit, magistrates in Haverfordwest have heard. Connie Elizabeth Griffiths, 20, pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared before the court.
Police attended a scene at Ratford Bridge, Haverfordwest, after receiving reports that a red Citroen was on its side on June 24.
Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, explained: “Police could see a young female inside. She was trapped and very upset.”
The police smashed a window in order to free her from the vehicle and as they did so, could smell alcohol on her breath. They then performed a breathalyser test, which she failed.
It was later found that she had 72mg of alcohol per 100ml breath – the legal limit is only 35mg.
In defence, Mark Layton said: “Clearly the consequences could have been much worse for Miss Griffiths”, adding that she was likely to lose her job, where she was highly regarded, as a result of disqualification.
“Her licence is essential for her to carry out her duties. This is very much out of character for her.”
Griffiths was banned from the roads for seventeen months, fined £75, ordered to pay £85 costs plus a £30 victim surcharge.
