A teenager who had been banned from driving was caught behind the wheel after he had bought a car on Facebook.

The 18 year old driver, Thomas Sheard appeared at Kirklees Magistrates Court facing charges of driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

The court heard that Mr Sheard was driving a car he had bought on Facebook for some £300.

It was on the same day he bought the car that he was stopped by the police.

The car, an MG ZR was seized by the police after he was stopped.

Mr Sheard had been spotted driving around the DW Sports Fitness car park at around 11.30pm.

On the police arriving he ran away but was found nearby and then arrested.

Mr Sheard pleaded guilty before the court to both offences.

The presiding District Judge adjourned sentencing for the preparation of a pre sentence report.
