Barmaid Banned After Drink Driving, Crashing, And Abandoning Car 3/7
Barmaid Louise Cooper has been banned from the roads for three years after fleeing the scene of an accident while more than double the legal drink-drive limit.
30-year-old Cooper had been drinking in the early hours of the morning with a friend before crashing her Renault Megane in Wellington Road, Brightlingsea, but instead of reporting the incident she panicked and went to bed. Officers traced her as owner of the vehicle and found her asleep at home.
The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml breath, but the breathalyser test showed her to have 88mcgs in her system.
Cooper returned home from the bar where she works at around 3am on May 29, but received a call from a friend asking her for a lift. Leaving her sister to mind her three children, she got up and went to assist her friend. Once they met, they drank two large glasses of vodka each.
She admitted drink-driving and leaving the scene of an accident at Colchester Magistrates Court.
In mitigation, Selina Dines said “She gave her mate a lift.
“She had a couple of drinks because she had been having some difficulties in her long-term relationship with her partner which she was struggling with.
“She panicked and when she got home her sister told her to deal with it in the morning.
“She realises that was wrong and she had a duty to report the accident as soon as it was practical.”
Cooper had a previous conviction for failing to provide a breath specimen from 2010, which meant that Magistrates had to ban her from driving for three years. She was also fined £200, ordered to pay £85 costs, as well as pay a £30 victim surcharge.
