A disqualified driver has had his original ban extended after being caught driving a few yards down the road.
The disqualified driver, Mathew Collins gave a lift to his friend only months after being originally banned.
Collins was spotted by plain clothes polices officer who was patrolling the neighbourhood at the time.
When the officers questioned Collins, he made full and frank admissions as to his driving status.
Pleading guilty to riving whilst disqualified, the court heard that Collins had agreed to giving a friend a lift after being pestered, but changed his mind seconds into the journey.
The vehicle was seized by the police and as yet, Collins has not asked for it back.
Owing to the seriousness of the offence, despite the distance driven, Collins was banned for a further 12 months. He was also sentenced to a 12 month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work.
It should be noted that offences of driving whilst disqualified can carry a prison sentence. – https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/item/drive-whilst-disqualified/
Collins was also ordered to pay £135 in costs.
