A care assistant from Kidsgrove has been banned from driving for 26 months after CCTV operators saw her drink-driving on their monitors.
The operators noticed Leanne Crayton driving in a manner which suggested she was under the influence and passed on her details to police officers who tracked her down and pulled her over, immediately noticing a strong smell of alcohol on her breath.
Following her arrest on November 18, the 22-year old gave a breathalyser reading of 107mcg alcohol per 100ml breath – a level more than three times the legal limit of 35mcg.
Robert Holt, acting in Crayton’s defence, said that she had gone out on the town with friends, with the plan being to get a taxi home together. An argument ensued and Crayton’s friend’s abandoned her, forcing her to make her own way home.
“She will lose her mobility, her freedom, and her independence,” he said, adding that she will struggle to continue to work in her capacity as a care assistant.
Magistrates banned her from driving for 26 months as well as issuing a fine of £250, ordering her to pay £135 costs and a £30 surcharge.
The ban can be reduced by a quarter if Crayton undertakes a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
