A drink driver who crashed his car and fled the scene told a witness “no police” as he ran away.
However, Magistrates at Nottingham Magistrates Court heard that the driver, Gheorghe Ciobanu was soon picked up by the police at an address with a number of other men.
Once approached but the police, Ciobanu made a grand admission by saying: “It was me.”
After failing a breath test he was also told he shouldn’t have been driving as he was also uninsured and didn’t have a driving licence.
The court heard that as Ciobanu was driving he collided headlong with another vehicle driving the other way. As a result of the collision, Ciobanu’s car ended up on its roof.
As the driver of the other vehicle came to see if he was okay, Ciobanu started to run off from the scene saying: “No police.”
On being breathalysed, Ciobanu gave a reading of 43 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit in England and Wales is currently 35 micrograms.
Ciobanu admitted the offence before the court and was banned from driving for 14 months and ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.
Owing to the damage. Ciobanu’s car was written off.
