A man in Yeovil, Somerset, has pleaded guilty to drink driving after being pulled over for having a broken brake light.
When police pulled over 20-year-old Reece Joel Raybould they found him to have a pint glass and a bottle of alcohol sitting in the central console. They asked if he had been drinking, to which he replied he’d had a pint 10 minutes earlier. He then failed a breathalyser test.
He admitted to driving after consuming excess alcohol on September 17.
The court was told how officers on patrol in a marked vehicle spotted Raybould at the wheel of his VW Golf at around 4.30am.
Prosecutor Emma Lenanton went on to explain: “It had a defective rear brake light, so the police followed it towards Glenthorne Avenue and onto High Lea where they saw the vehicle mount the nearside kerb before returning to the carriageway,”
“They stopped the car and saw the defendant at the wheel with a front seat passenger who was his girlfriend.
Raybould was arrested after testing positive for alcohol in a roadside breathalyser test. Subsequent tests showed him to have 50mcg alcohol per 100ml breath where the legal limit is 35mcg.
Magistrates in Yeovil banned Raybould from driving for 12 months and ordered him to pay £315 in fines, costs, and the victim surcharge.
