A father-of-two has been jailed after being caught drink driving for the second time and while already disqualified.
Police branded the 34-year-old from Newhall, South Derbyshire, as “selfish” after he was caught just four months after his ban for drink driving while doing the school run.
The man was originally caught on June 27 while parked up. Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “Swadlincote. Assisted local officers with this drink driver. Blows 126mg, approaching four times the legal limit. The selfish behaviour will never stop but we do what we can. Arrested.”
The legal drink driving is 35mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. While there were no children in his car at the time, an investigation found that he was on his way to pick them up. He was banned from driving for three years.
The defendant was shamed again by the police on twitter when picked up the second time. “Remember this guy, Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit? Just stopped again by us. Driving while disqualified, no insurance and [drink driving]. Some people never learn!”
His second arrest came after the Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team saw him driving his car at around 7.30pm on Sunday, October 7.
The team knew he was disqualified as he was driving the same car as he had been at the time of his arrest in June.
He appeared at South Derbyshire Magistrates Court the day after his arrest and pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and driving without insurance.
Sergeant Graham Summers, in charge of the Safer Neighbourhood teams in the area, said: “This shows the value of policing teams who work in the community and have local knowledge of the people living there.
“This was a selfish act that was causing real dangers to other and only a few months after the court had disqualified him from driving, as such we are happy that he has been caught and sent to prison.”
Magistrates jailed him for 12 weeks and imposed a four-year driving ban, as well as ordering him to pay a victim surcharge of £115.
