A 25-year-old man from Whitby has been jailed for 18 months and banned from driving for five years after being caught riding a motorcycle while nearly three times the drink-drive limit.
Police officers stopped Daniel Temple while they were out on foot patrol at Beck Hole on the North Yorkshire Moors on September 24.
Temple had been riding the motorcycle through nearby Goathland without a helmet. The officers smelled alcohol on his breath and testing showed him to be nearly three times the limit with 101mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal limit is 35mcg. The evidential test, taken once he had been taken into custody, showed a reading of 99mcg per 100ml breath.
He pleaded guilty At Scarborough Magistrates Court to driving whilst over the prescribed limit, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to wear protective headgear, and driving a vehicle without a test certificate.
Neighbourhood Beat Officer Neil Cholmondeley, of North Yorkshire Police said: “Drink driving wrecks lives. It not only puts yourself at risk, but endangers other road users and pedestrians.
“We will not tolerate drivers who think it is acceptable to drive a vehicle whilst under the influence.
“I’m pleased that another dangerous motorist is off the roads who blatantly disregards the safety of others.”
Temple was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, banned from driving for five years, and ordered to pay a £115 fine.
