A Metropolitan Police office who had been commended for his actions during the 2011 riots in Croydon, has been sacked from his job following a road traffic collision and a later offence of drink driving.

It all started in July 2015 when the officer, Lucasz Wooster, overtook slow moving traffic and ended up facing oncoming vehicles.

Wooster was off duty at the time and had his son his the car as a passenger.

In February 2016, Wooster was pulled over by police and was found to be more than 3 times over the drink driving limit.

The current drink driving limit in England and Wales is 35mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

It has been reported that Wooster was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after his arrest over drink driving. It was discovered that he had intentionally got drunk and then drove as he wanted to go to Beachy Head and kill himself.

Wooster had initially denied the offence of dangerous driving from the first incident, but pleaded guilty on 17 May 2016.

On 19 May 2016, Wooster also pleaded guilty to the offence of drink driving and was banned from driving for 2 years.

At a misconduct hearing, the panel heard how Wooster had suffered mental health issues after the first incident, through fear of losing his job.

In response to the panel and the issues put to him, Wooster stated: “I would sincerely like to apologise for my behaviour in recent months. I’ve let down not only myself, but my colleagues and the public, and they have the right to expect more.”

Despite expressing sympathy with him, the panel ruled that he should be dismissed without notice.
