A 37-year-old woman is now seeking new work after her daughter reported her for drink-driving.
Kelly Joyce Ensbury drove around 200 yards from her home before realising she was making a mistake in committing the drink-driving offence and returned home.
For the prosecution, Simon Ostler told the court that by the time the police arrived, Ensbury had already returned home, and the car was in the driveway. Tests showed her to be one-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit.
Ensbury told officers that on the day of the offence, 30 September, she had been drinking in Selby before getting a bus into York, where she continued drinking. She then got a taxi home where she had an argument with her daughter. She decided to cool off by going for a drive. On realising a few moments later that she was committing an offence, she returned home.
The former supply teacher pleaded guilty to drink-driving, and Magistrates banned her from the roads for 16 months, as well as fining her £120 plus orders to pay a £30 statutory surcharge and £85 costs.
Unable to continue her career as a supply teacher in North Yorkshire schools due to the absence of public transport in the area, she is now seeking other employment.
