A 42-year-old Royal Navy veteran with 12 years service stands to lose his job after being caught drink-driving at three times the legal limit.
Nathan Worth drank four pints in the pub before driving home on November 21.
Worth was pulled over by the police after they received a tip-off, and he gave a reading of 106mcg alcohol per 100ml breath – over three times the limit of 35mcg.
North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard how he had struggled to adjust to civilian life after leaving the Royal Navy four years ago, suffered from depression, and used alcohol as a coping mechanism.
Janice Sain-Reiners, mitigating, said: “He has a stable relationship with his partner and they have a child. This is a very sad situation for him. He is now going to lose his job,”
Worth pleaded guilty to drink-driving over the limit and was banned from driving for two years. He was also handed a 12-month community order with a five-day rehabilitation activity requirement, ordered to complete the Drink Impaired Drivers Programme, fined £120 plus £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
His ban may be reduced if he completes a drink-drive rehabilitation programme.
