Magistrates in Rickergate, Carlisle, have heard how officers stopped a white Mercedes in the city at around 2 am on Wednesday, May 10.
As the car halted it hit a kerb and went onto the pavement. The officer spoke to the driver, Alexander McAllister, and smelled something on his breath. An examination of the car revealed white powder, which later turned out to be cocaine.
The officers described him as very “fidgety”, and he was arrested and taken to Durranhill Police station for a drug test. In one of the highest drug readings ever recorded, he was found to have 800mcg of BZE (Benzoylecgonine), a metabolised form of cocaine, per litre of blood. The legal limit is 50mcg.
McAllister represented himself in court and apologised for his offence. He was disqualified from driving for twelve months, fined £320, and order to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.
