The AA and the Department for Transport have produced a public information video aimed at raising awareness of texting and driving.
The new video, titled “Designated Driver”, is a short film dealing with the common misconception that texting and driving are still acceptable on the roads.
A poll of 17,000 British people was undertaken and it would found that 71% of those interviewed thought to text whilst driving was more likely to cause a crash than drink driving.
According to the AA, a driver who is texting and driving is twice a likely to cause a crash than someone who is drink driving.
This report was made at the time when sentencing for using a mobile phone behind the wheel was increased to six penalty points and a £200 fine.
