A driver caught speeding at 99mph down the A55 dual carriageway in the West Midlands has been fined £700 and banned from driving for 18 months after being found to be over the drug driving limit.
23-year-old Romario Ispir from Wolverhampton was found to have traces of cannabinoid drugs in his system. He admitted to drug-driving, speeding, and driving without insurance or license.
District Judge Richard Hine described the incidents as serious matters, driving at high speed while under the influence of drugs.
Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, told the court that on 22 August an officer used a hand held pro laser device on the defendant’s vehicle, finding it to be driving at 99mph in a 70mph area.
Ispir provided a positive drugs test and was later found to have 3mg of the drug in his system. The legal limit is 2mg.
In his defence, Brian Cross stated that a family member had originally been driving, but Ispir took over when the driver became ill and was not familiar with either the car or its speed.
Cross described his client as a young man who worked and had no previous convictions, and would never appear in court again.
