A 44-year old woman has been given a conditional discharge after being caught driving while under the influence of drugs three times in a two week period.
Ilona Harpen was under investigation by officers from Operation Dragoon – a campaign by Dorset police which targets high-risk road users.
Poole Magistrates heard how Harpen was stopped in the town three times in different areas on 15,24, and 25 August
She was found to have more than three times the legal amount of cocaine in her system following her arrest on August 15, with 33mcg per litre of blood where the legal limit is 10. She was also found to have 800mcg BZE (benzoylecgonine – the by-product of cocaine use found in the body) in her system, where the legal limit is 50mcg per litre of blood.
The tests on August 24 showed 5cmg cocaine and 519mcg BZE, while on the 25th they showed her to have 8mcg cocaine 556mcg BZE.
Sergeant Mark Farrow of Dorset Police’s “No Excuse” Team said: “Since launching Operation Dragoon in September 2016 the No Excuse team robustly targets those drivers who pose a significant threat of causing risk or harm to both themselves and others.
“The team uses all means at its disposal to identify opportunities to deal with high-risk road users including liaising with partner agencies, the DVLA and insurance companies to identify offences.
“Dorset Police regularly receives and acts upon valuable information provided by members of public in relation to drink and drug driving.”
After pleading guilty to three counts of driving under the influence of drugs, Halpern was banned from driving for 18 months, given an 18-month conditional discharge, and fined £210.
