The country’s leading criminal defence lawyer has said the government must immediately suspend its contract with the laboratory-testing company, Randox.
The call from Nick Freeman, aka Mr Loophole, came after it was suggested that as many as 10,000 blood samples tested at the firm’s Manchester site may have been manipulated.
Mr Freeman said: “Five months ago the police said they were looking at 6,000 cases, and back then I said I feared this was the tip of the iceberg. Sadly, it looks like my worst fears could now be realised.
“The integrity of the forensic process is sacrosanct and the Government must immediately suspend its contract with Randox until the police have concluded their investigation.
“These are extremely serious allegations and, in my view, it would be a national disgrace if they were allowed to continue testing blood samples. It’s now high time for Home Secretary Amber Rudd to intervene.”
On February 20, the Crown Prosecution discontinued a drug driving case after Mr Freeman’s firm challenged the results of a blood sample sent to the private business.
That decision came just 24 hours after two employees at Randox were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
