A police officer who has been convicted of drink driving and being twice the legal limit is facing a tribunal to determine her future with the force.
Although no specific details have been released regarding the offence, it has been reported that PC Jaqueline Robinson was breathalysed and found to have 75mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit in England and Wales is 35mcg.
“The public expect the highest standard of behaviour and expect to have the highest trust in officers on and off duty. If citizens feel there is a loss of trust then confidence (in the police) can be eroded.” Caroline Sellers, the prosecuting officer, told the hearing.
She continued “There is a serious message, which Derbyshire Constabulary are keen to stress to the public, in that drink-driving is dangerous and it can lead to people losing their employment and life.”
PC Robinson was absent from the hearing on the grounds of her health, but a statement was issued on her behalf. She said: “I find myself shattered with everything that has happened and I cannot see me returning to how I was. I was a hard-working individual with ambition and dreams to succeed.
“I’ve been through very dark days and had thought of suicide. The stress had had a severe effect on my health and led to the break-up of my 17-year-old marriage and effectively continued to affect my two young children.”
Chief Constable Mark Creedon, adjourned the hearing to consider the evidence.
