A speeding drink driver, who had been banned for drink driving 3 times before, has been handed a prison sentence after colliding with another motorist.
The victim in the case, David Paul had stopped close to a petrol station, near to a round about owing to his car breaking down.
He got out of his car to investigate the problem when Fareed Ebrahim ploughed into him at speed.
It should be noted that at the time of the accident Ebrahim was already serving a 5 year ban for his third drink driving conviction.
After hitting Mr Paul, Ebrahim drover away leaving others to assist the injured motorist.
Because of the accident Mr Paul spent 18 days in hospital with a broken back an pelvis. He also suffered from Pneumonia.
Ibrahim was arrested by police a few hours later and when tested the calculation showed that he had been more than 3 times over the drink driving limit.
When sentencing Judge Simon James told Ebrahim: “Your disregard for court orders borders on contempt.
“You have no regard for anyone but yourself. You left the scene, leaving your seriously injured victim with potentially life-threatening injuries.”
Ebrahim was sentenced to 3 year and 4 months in prison with a fresh 5 year driving ban, to begin after his release.
