A 30-year-old man from Moredon has been banned from the roads after being arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
Police stopped him on July 23, and a roadside test returned a positive result for both cannabis and cocaine. A search of the car yielded a pipe for crack cocaine as well as a small amount of cannabis.
After being taken to the police station, however, he refused to give a blood sample.
Swindon Magistrates also heard that he was in breach of the terms of a previous community order having twice failed to attend appointments with the probation service.
Mark Glendinning, defending, said that his client had felt victimised by officers at the time: “He just wasn’t prepared to engage.”
He also believed it wouldn’t be worth attending further probation appointments once his probation officer told him he had breached the terms of his community order.
Mr Glendinning said, however, that his client wanted to help: “He is keen to comply with this order and take advantage of the help offered to him.”
After pleading guilty to failure to provide a specimen for analysis and possession of cannabis, the man’s previous community order was extended by three months and ordered to pay £60 to the probation service. Magistrates also fined him £120 for failing to provide a specimen, ordered to pay £85 costs, a £30 victim surcharge, and was disqualified from driving for three years.
