The country’s leading motoring lawyer is urging women drivers who have consumed even low levels of alcohol the previous evening to add a breathalyser to their morning routine.
Nick Freeman, aka Mr Loophole, is advising female motorists in particular to invest in breathalyser kits, which cost a nominal amount, so as to avoid the danger of being arrested for drink driving “the morning after the night before”.
Mr Freeman, who has a string of A-list celebrity clients, said: “My firm is representing an increasing number of women motorists caught drink driving, and many of these find themselves over the limit the following morning.
“Research has shown that women are much more vulnerable than men to the adverse consequences of alcohol consumption because of their physiological make-up.”
Mr Freeman added: “Women absorb and metabolise alcohol differently than men; in general women have less body water than men of similar body weight, meaning they absorb about 30 per cent more alcohol into their bloodstream after drinking the equivalent amount of alcohol.
“I would advise anyone who has been drinking the night before to use a breathalyser kit before getting in their car. It is better to be safe than sorry.
“Investing in a small amount for this piece of kit, which is mandatory in France, could save someone the expense of a very heavy fine coupled with a minimum 12-month driving ban, plus, of course, a criminal record.”
