A campaign promoted in industry news has called for increased use of technology to help prevent drink‑driving incidents. The initiative, reported by Fleet News, focuses on technological solutions that aim to reduce the likelihood of drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

The campaign highlights devices such as alcohol interlocks (sometimes referred to as “alcolocks”), which are designed to prevent a vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected in a driver’s breath. Such technology has been introduced in other countries as part of broader road safety efforts.

Support for the use of alcohol interlocks appears to be significant among drivers surveyed in related industry reporting. A recent survey found that around 82 % of UK drivers backed the idea of using interlock devices as a measure to reduce repeat drink‑driving offences, with a majority indicating that convicted drink‑drivers should be fitted with the technology.

The campaign and related discussions occur against the backdrop of wider attention to drink‑driving as a safety issue in the UK, where proposed changes to road‑safety policy include consultations on preventative technologies and measures to address drink‑and drug‑driving as part of a broader strategy to reduce road casualties.
